Concrete

Contrary to popular belief, concrete and cement is not the same thing. Cement is actually just a component of concrete. Concrete is made up of three basic components: water, aggregate (rock, sand, or gravel) and Portland cement. Cement, usually in powder form, acts as a binding agent when mixed with water and aggregates. This combination, or concrete mix, will be poured and harden into the durable material with which we are all familiar. In the residential trade….concrete is widely used and popular for driveway extensions, additional walkways, backyards, patios, sidewalks, etc. People are also choosing to replace their grass and lawn areas with concrete to cutback on maintenance and save water. In the commercial….concrete is mostly used for new roads such as the streets and freeways.

Framing

Framing, in construction is known as light frame construction. It is a building technique based around structural members, usually called studs, which provide a stable frame to which interior and exterior wall coverings are attached and covered by roof comprised horizontal ceiling joists and sloping (together forming a rafterstruss structure) or manufactured pre-fabricated roof trusses - All of which are covered by various sheathing.

Wood Framing is a common method of      construction throughout the world. Steel Framing is also gaining in popularity because of new developments in high wind load resistant designs. Steel Framing is constructed in a similar fashion as wood framing. Overall, Framing is the most important phase to a construction of a new building, extensions and additions. There are many great choices to consider when deciding on the flooring for your home or office. Let’s take a look at ten of the most popular flooring styles from which to choose from:

1. Hardwood Flooring.

Solid hardwood floors are one of the staples within the flooring industry, simply because of the natural beauty and durability of solid hardwood floors. They have been around for centuries. Solid wood floors are a timeless investment that can produce a lifetime of beauty and add value to the home or office. Wood floors come in Maple, Oak, Cherry, Beech, Pecan, Pine, Birch, Walnut, Hickory and more.

Bamboo flooring is one of the newcomers in the flooring industry. Bamboo is more environmentally friendly than hardwood floors. Bamboo is actually not wood – it is a grass. Bamboo is very durable, versatile and elegant. The natural variations of color that is unique to bamboo come from carbonization and are usually a honey brown color or light tan.

3. Laminate Flooring.

Laminate floors are the fastest growing choice in flooring in America today. The laminate flooring received its fame from Europe and now it is increasingly popular here in the United States. Laminate floors are cheaper than hardwood and they are easy to maintain. The laminate flooring is virtually resistant to burns, scratches, chipping and is great for high traffic areas.

4. Linoleum Flooring.

Linoleum and vinyl are commonly confused. However, genuine linoleum is a classic and was invented over 100 years ago. Linoleum is made only from raw, natural materials and it is preferred environmentally because of the material. Linseed oil is the main ingredient. Mineral pigments are responsible for the beautiful rich colors of the linoleum. The linoleum flooring comes rolled and ready to install and is available in varying thickness.

5. Ceramic Tiles.

The most waterproof type of flooring is ceramic tiles, they can be used as floor tiles or counter tops, indoors or outdoors. The high gloss finish is usually the most popular for counter tops, although they do tend to scratch. For outdoor flooring, the unglazed finish is preferred because of the possibility of standing water. This type of finish on ceramic tiles is also commonly used in showers. Finishes available are: matte, embossed, glazed and textured ones for anti-slip.

6. Marble & Natural Stone Floors.

Any room in your house or office will have a clean, rich feel with gorgeous marble, granite, travertine, slate and limestone flooring. The tiles come in different sizes, usually around 12×12, 16x16, 18x18 and are easy to install yourself. Marble and natural stone products are processed everywhere in the world from metamorphic rock blocks that contain mostly calcium carbonate that are quarried. Marble tiles and other natural stone floors make an elegant entryway or foyer and come in many colors.

7. Carpet & Rugs.

Carpet has been used for years and the only downfall is the bulky installation problems. In efforts to rectify the difficulties of installation, carpet tiles are now offered. Carpet tiles are squares, like ceramic tiles, which have been proven to be superior in choices in every way. This new carpet can be easily installed by most homeowners. Roofing

Your home in California should be the most comfortable place in the world. You can have a great carpet, stylish and comfortable furniture, a sturdy foundation, well-built and solid walls, and even that delicately subtle shade of paint that is so hard to get right - but if you have a leaky or defective roof, you've got a nightmare. Having good, high quality roofing on any structure is highly important, especially in those parts of the country that have frequent rainstorms or inclement weather. Roofing problems make themselves known in the form of leaks and drips. Repair leaky roofs before ceilings and walls are damaged; better yet, check your roof at least once a year before the storm season (and after a major storm, if necessary).  When your roof has multiple leaks or many damaged shingles, it usually means it’s time to replace the roofing. When you put on a new roof, it’s helpful to store a few extra shingles so you’ll have matching replacements for repairs. Roof tiles are more popular these days and are actually required by most cities now. There are many designs and styles to choose from which will enhance the beauty of your home or business.

Patios

Back yards, especially concrete patios, are being transformed into luxurious extensions of the house. They're the new favorite room to relax, entertain, and cook. And the heart and soul of the backyard resort area is the concrete patio.  Homeowners want to enjoy their homes, but they also see upgrading their back yards as an investment. Creating the look of an authentic stone patio, slate patio, or cobblestone patio is more economical to install using decorative concrete, and adds beauty and value to the home.

Kitchens & bathrooms

Kitchens & bathrooms are being invested in more than ever today by homeowners simply because of the difference it can make in your home. We spend a lot of our time being in the bathroom. WIth that in mind, there have been a wide array of custom designs to meet everybody's lifestyle. Kitchens are one of the more popular areas of a home today because more and more people are spending more time there as well cooking up something good to eat. With the popularity of home cooking channels, a lot of women and men have been proactive in being the next "great chef." From marble to granite countertops, recessed lighting to flood lights, solid wood custom cabinets to modern stainless steel cabinets....there are just so many product choices out there to choose from today to give your kitchen and bathroom the added beauty and elegance that you can appreciate each and every day.
